Corporate Affairs Commission exposes 247 firms for fake RC numbers

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has delisted 247 companies for operating with fake Registered Certificate (RC) numbers, warning Nigerians against transacting with them.

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has removed 247 companies from its official database after discovering that they were operating with false Registered Certificate (RC) numbers.

The announcement was made through a public notice issued on Friday via the Commission’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the CAC, the affected businesses were never legally registered as limited liability companies. The RC numbers linked to them were never assigned by the Commission, meaning the names and RC numbers have now been permanently deleted from Nigeria’s company registry.

“The general public is hereby informed that the 247 companies listed below have not been duly registered as limited liability companies. The Registered Certificate (RC) numbers allegedly ascribed to them have not been assigned to anyone of them. Consequently, the names and the RC numbers have been removed from the database,” the notice stated.

### Implications for business dealings

The Commission stressed that these entities do not possess legal corporate status and, therefore, any transactions with them would not enjoy the protection of the law. The move is part of CAC’s broader efforts to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s business registry and shield the public from fraudulent practices.

### Companies on the list

A review of the names shows that the affected entities cut across several industries, with alleged registration dates going back as far as the 1990s and early 2000s. A few examples include:

* **Dwell Space Limited** – Alleged RC: 123456 – Claimed registration date: 14-Jan-1997
* **Borno Engineering Supply & Technical Company Limited** – Alleged RC: 513331 – Claimed registration date: 22-Jul-1991
* **Vourla Petroleum/Gas Limited** – Alleged RC: 513344 – Claimed registration date: 15-Feb-1990
* **Startrek Traveler Limited** – Alleged RC: 513348 – Claimed registration date: 20-May-1996
* **Medical City SPV Services Limited** – Alleged RC: 513355 – Claimed registration date: 17-Apr-1990
* **Rychado Global Malls Limited** – Alleged RC: 513911 – Claimed registration date: 18-Feb-1999
* **Lamonde Nigeria Limited** – Alleged RC: 514722 – Claimed registration date: 18-Jul-1990
* **Diamond Construction Engineering Ltd** – Alleged RC: 530021 – Claimed registration date: 26-Jan-1994

The CAC did not indicate whether legal proceedings would follow but strongly advised the public to avoid any dealings with the delisted companies.

### Why this matters

The crackdown reflects CAC’s ongoing reforms aimed at boosting trust in Nigeria’s corporate environment. With fraudulent registrations on the rise, the Commission’s action serves as a warning to individuals and businesses to always verify company details before entering into contracts or financial transactions.
