Ghana star Shatta Wale detained over Lamborghini purchase
On August 20, 2025, Ghanaian dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah—popularly known as Shatta Wale—was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with a 2019 Lamborghini Urus under investigation as proceeds from a US-based fraud scheme .
The detention follows an order by a US District Court in Lexington, Kentucky, which authorized the forfeiture of the Lamborghini for restitution in a criminal case involving Ghanaian Nana Kwabena Amuah.
EOCO indicates that Shatta Wale voluntarily presented himself for questioning on August 20 and was subsequently granted bail on the same day under strict conditions, including a GH₵10 million bond with two reliable sureties .
Despite these developments, the artist has yet to confirm who sold him the vehicle, claiming he bought it from “the street” and recalling only a possible alias, “ZAK,” through whom the contact was lost .
Importantly, Shatta Wale lacks any formal documentation—such as sales receipts or transfer forms—to substantiate ownership, with the only document in his possession being a customs declaration bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, the now-convicted US inmate .
His fans responded swiftly, gathering at EOCO’s offices on August 21 to demand his release, an act that underscores both his popularity and the public scrutiny surrounding the case .
