Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Addresses China Chip Sales, US Policy, and Future of AI Robotics

During a recent visit to Beijing, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang minimized his role in influencing the U.S. government’s decision to ease restrictions on selling advanced chips to China. Speaking candidly at a press conference, Huang emphasized that while Nvidia provides information to policymakers, the final decisions remain outside the company’s control.

H20 Chip and U.S. Export Restrictions

Huang was in China to promote Nvidia’s H20 AI chip, which was specifically designed to comply with U.S. export controls. The chip had previously faced a sales block in April due to national security concerns. However, Nvidia confirmed this week that the U.S. Commerce Department is now moving forward with licensing that would allow chip exports to China.

Despite recent developments, Huang was modest about his influence. “I don’t think I changed [President Trump’s] mind,” he told reporters, describing his involvement as informational rather than persuasive. He noted, “We can only influence them, inform them, do our best to provide them with facts. And then beyond that is out of our control.”

Sales Impact and Market Potential in China

Nvidia previously estimated that the U.S. restrictions could result in $5.5 billion in lost sales. While some recovery is now possible, Huang admitted the extent will depend on how many orders for the H20 are placed and how swiftly Nvidia can fulfill them. He expressed optimism, saying, “I think that H20 is going to be very successful here,” especially for companies like DeepSeek and Alibaba that are working on advanced AI models.

Focus on Robotics and Next-Gen Chips

In addition to the H20, Huang introduced the new RTX Pro graphics chip, designed to support humanoid robotics and intelligent systems. He predicted that robotics innovation and smart factory systems in China will drive demand for such hardware. “RTX Pro is perfect,” Huang said, referencing the country’s massive supply chain and rapid tech development.

Huang’s visit was marked by a wave of enthusiasm from the local tech community, with journalists and fans crowding for selfies. His signature leather jacket and relaxed demeanor only added to the buzz surrounding his appearance.

As geopolitical tensions and global tech competition continue, Nvidia’s strategy reflects a balancing act—navigating policy, innovation, and market demand, particularly in a country where AI adoption is accelerating.
