middle school librarian, Scott McGinley, was arrested for allegedly distributing child sexual material.

Holyoke, Massachusetts — A 55-year-old middle school librarian, Scott McGinley, has been arrested and charged with distribution of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. McGinley, employed at Williams Middle School and Glenbrook Middle School in Longmeadow, appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon.

Disturbing Discovery During Search

Investigators reported that a search of McGinley’s home on August 8, 2025, uncovered multiple electronic devices, including two iPhones, a tablet, an Apple Watch, and two laptops.

In the basement, authorities found a locked Pelican case containing items associated with children aged 5–7, including diapers, diaper cream, a Santa costume, children’s clothing, and apple sauce packets.

A separate toolbox allegedly contained boys’ underwear and bedding.

Alleged Online Activity

According to charging documents, McGinley allegedly used an encrypted messaging app to distribute child sexual abuse material to a group called “Little boyz only.” Undercover law enforcement agents posing as users engaged him in conversation, during which McGinley reportedly admitted to a sexual interest in “boys age 2–12,” with a preference for those aged 4–7.

He also claimed to arrange his students strategically in the classroom so that he could see under desks and sit them close to him, though he stated he had not engaged in physical contact.

Authorities said his phone contained more than 100 files depicting child sexual abuse material.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

McGinley faces one count of distributing child pornography. If convicted, he could face significant prison time and be required to register as a sex offender. Federal investigators continue to analyze the evidence recovered during the search.

Community Impact

The arrest has sparked concern among parents and educators in Longmeadow, where McGinley served as a librarian. Both Williams Middle School and Glenbrook Middle School are cooperating with law enforcement as the case develops.
