The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its nationwide strike following an agreement reached with the management of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals over workers’ rights to unionise.

Allnews Nigeria gathered suspension came after a conciliation meeting convened on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi. The meeting produced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both parties.

Fuel stations across the country had been shut down during the two-day strike, which was triggered by allegations that the Dangote Group denied employees the right to join recognised labour unions.

360nobs reported that according to the MoU, Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals acknowledged unionisation as a legal right and agreed to allow employees who wish to join labour unions to do so. The process is expected to commence immediately and be concluded within two weeks, between September 9 and 22, 2025.

The agreement also included assurances that the company would not create parallel unions and that no worker would be victimised for participating in the strike or for unionising.

With the resolution, NUPENG announced the suspension of its industrial action, paving the way for normal fuel supply to resume nationwide.
