Mahavatar Narsimha Sees Explosive 400% Box Office Growth, Earns ₹11.35 Crore in Hindi Opening Weekend

In a remarkable turn of events for Indian animation, Mahavatar Narsimha has shattered expectations with an outstanding opening weekend in the Hindi market. The film recorded a 400% surge in earnings from Friday through Sunday, firmly placing itself as a major box office contender and signaling the potential for a larger animated franchise.

Presented by Hombale Films and produced by Kleem Productions, Mahavatar Narsimha opened to modest numbers on Friday, earning ₹1.35 crore. However, driven by strong word-of-mouth and increasing audience interest, the film’s earnings soared to ₹3.25 crore on Saturday—a 150% jump. On Sunday, the film witnessed another 110% rise, pulling in an estimated ₹6.50–₹7.00 crore.

This brings its 3-day total to a staggering ₹11.35 crore in Hindi alone, according to the filmmakers.

Directed by Ashwin Kumar, Mahavatar Narsimha taps into Indian mythology, portraying the powerful tale of Lord Vishnu’s fierce avatar, Narsimha. Its narrative depth and cultural roots have struck a chord with family audiences, particularly resonating with children and youth.

Not since Hanuman (2005) has a homegrown animated film made such a strong impact in the Hindi-speaking market.

Responding to growing demand, cinema chains significantly increased showings of the film. Starting with 800 screenings on Friday, Mahavatar Narsimha expanded to 1,100 shows on Saturday, and then 2,000 by Sunday—a rare occurrence for an Indian animated film.

The momentum is expected to carry into the week, with Monday’s earnings projected to surpass the opening day, further validating the film’s growing popularity.

Mahavatar Narsimha’s success could serve as a turning point for the Indian animation industry, long dominated by international productions. Its combination of rich mythology, cinematic storytelling, and animation is paving the way for what could be a multi-film franchise and a new era for Indian animated features.
