[Sticky] Indonesian House Speaker Adies Kadir revealed that DPR RI salaries have not increased in 15 years
Deputy House Speaker Adies Kadir reveals stagnant salaries for DPR RI members while highlighting allowances adjusted to economic realities.
Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Adies Kadir, stated that the base salaries of DPR members have not increased for more than 15 years. Speaking at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (19/8/2025), he explained that despite stagnant salaries, members have continued to carry out their duties with understanding, given the government’s emphasis on budget efficiency.
“Even though the salary has not increased for 20 years, and not in the last 15 years, members understand the need for efficiency in today’s situation,” Adies said.
According to him, DPR RI members currently receive a monthly salary of around Rp 6.5 million. He admitted that this figure does not match Jakarta’s rising cost of living, but lawmakers continue to make the most of what they receive in order to work effectively.
Allowances Have Increased
Although base salaries remain unchanged, Adies noted that certain allowances have been adjusted in line with inflation. He mentioned that Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has provided increases in areas such as food and fuel support.
For example, rice allowances that were previously around Rp 10 million per month have risen to Rp 12 million. Similarly, gasoline allowances have been raised from around Rp 4–5 million to Rp 7 million per month.
Adies, with a touch of humor, remarked that perhaps the finance minister felt sympathy for members of parliament given the rising cost of basic goods like rice and eggs.
Housing Support for Members
Another benefit, according to Adies, is the housing allowance for lawmakers. Since official housing is no longer provided, members now receive approximately Rp 50 million per month as a housing allowance.
“I think it makes sense if it is Rp 50 million per month. This is only for members, while the leadership does not receive it because they still get official housing,” he explained.
Balancing Salary and Duties
Adies emphasized that even though the official salary of around Rp 6.5 million appears modest compared to Jakarta’s economic demands, the combination of allowances ensures that legislators can still carry out their responsibilities effectively.
