Venus Williams celebrates historic victory and engagement with actor-director Andrea Preti
Tennis legend Venus Williams had a night to remember as she not only returned triumphantly to the court but also shared some personal joy—she’s engaged to Italian actor and filmmaker Andrea Preti!
The 45-year-old sports icon made history on Tuesday by becoming the second-oldest woman ever to win a WTA singles match, following in the footsteps of Martina Navratilova. After her inspiring victory—her first since March 2024—Williams made the surprise announcement during her post-match interview.
> “There were so many times I just wanted to coast and kinda chill,” Venus said. “Do you know how hard it is to play tennis? You guys don’t know how much work goes into this. It’s 9 to 5 except you’re running the whole time.”
Williams credited Preti, 37, for pushing her to continue chasing greatness. The milestone match was also the first time Preti watched her play live, prompting commentator Rennae Stubbs to call him her “good luck charm.”

Preti, known for his role in Temptation, is also a director and writer. He beamed with pride following the match, posting celebratory photos of Venus mid-play on his social media.
The couple was first linked back in July 2024 after they were spotted enjoying a boat ride in Italy. Despite that sighting, they’ve kept their relationship largely under wraps—until now.
With her win and engagement, Venus proves she’s still a force both on and off the court.
