[Sticky] Deji Adeleke’s 1250MW Power Plant Completed, Awaits Gas Grid Link
Deji Adeleke power plant Ondo State
Renowned businessman and Pro-Chancellor of Adeleke University, Dr. Deji Adeleke, has completed construction of a 1250-megawatt power plant in Ajebamidele, Ondo State. The power facility is now awaiting connection to the national gas grid before it can begin operations.
Speaking at the 11th undergraduate and 7th postgraduate convocation ceremony of Adeleke University in Ede, Osun State, Dr. Adeleke announced that the plant will employ more than 2,000 engineers and technical workers. His brother, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, was also honored with an honorary Doctorate Degree during the event.
“The power plant is ready. We’re just waiting to be connected to the gas grid to start generating electricity,” he said. “If not for some of my relationships, we wouldn’t have been able to get GE to supply the turbines. That would have meant no plant and no jobs.”
Dr. Adeleke went on to criticize Nigeria’s electoral process, citing vote selling and the use of violence during elections as factors scaring off foreign investors. According to him, Nigeria’s inability to hold credible elections has damaged the country’s image and is directly affecting job creation.
“We can’t expect good governance when votes are traded. When we allow rigging and ignore the democratic process, we also shut the door to investment. Many graduates from years ago are still unemployed because no one is investing in a country they don’t trust,” he explained.
He emphasized the need for Nigerians to insist on credible elections, saying that the only way to attract meaningful investments is by building a democratic system that earns respect globally. “Nigeria is full of potential, but we need accountability. That starts with doing the right thing during elections,” he added.
The convocation ceremony saw the graduation of 1,133 students from six faculties and the College of Postgraduate Studies.
