Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has made a deeply personal revelation, stating that her only real experience of true love has been with her son, Jamil.
In a candid interview with media personality Zeze Mills on Friday, the 45-year-old award-winning singer reflected on her romantic history and admitted that what she once believed was love was, in fact, mere infatuation.
“I’ve never felt true love except with my son. Looking back at my relationships, even my marriage, I realise it wasn’t love,” Tiwa Savage confessed.
The singer explained that despite giving love multiple chances, she has come to accept that perhaps romantic love is not part of her destiny. “I’ve tried repeatedly, so maybe love isn’t meant for me in this lifetime,” she added.
Tiwa Savage’s Struggles with Love and Marriage
Tiwa Savage, often called the “Queen of Afrobeats,” has never shied away from speaking about her challenges in relationships. In December last year, she opened up about her divorce from music executive Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun, whom she married in 2013. The marriage ended in 2018 after attempts to reconcile their differences failed.
The Kele Kele crooner revealed that the split came during a period when she was battling postpartum depression following the birth of their son. She also accused her ex-husband of being responsible for the collapse of their marriage.
During that time, Tiwa Savage faced harsh public criticism and admitted that some prominent figures advised her to remain silent to protect her image.
Public Reactions to Tiwa Savage’s Honest Confession
Fans and industry insiders have responded with mixed emotions to Tiwa Savage’s latest remarks. Some have praised her for her honesty and vulnerability, while others have expressed sympathy over her struggles with finding lasting romantic love.
Her statement, “Maybe love isn’t for me this lifetime,” has since sparked conversations on social media about the realities of love, relationships, and emotional healing.
Despite her personal challenges, Tiwa Savage continues to dominate the Nigerian and global music scene, proving that her resilience and artistry remain as strong as ever.
Her openness about love and relationships adds another layer to the authenticity that has endeared her to millions worldwide.
